Snail mucin masks are recently very popular in Korea, due to the healing and regenerative properties of the snail mucin.

Have you seen snails getting injured by the rough floor or the sharp blades of the grass which they are crawling on before? Never! This is because they have this layer of mucin to help protect their soft bodies from sharp objects and from external harm.

Snail mucin is the same thing as snail mucous I think, and according to Wikipedia, the mucous is a gel consisting of a polymer of network that functions as a protective layer for the integument (covering) and the mucosal surfaces of both simple animals and mammals.

According to the packaging, this mask:
  • Gives a better moisturizing effect than traditional Hyaluronic Acid
  • Essences are break down to smaller molecules for better absorption giving brighter and healthier skin.
  • Increase the absorbing powers with the deep penetration zero osmotic pressure.
From Wikipedia:
"Snail slime is commercially obtained from the common garden snail species Helix aspersa, which produces a secretion rich in proteins of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and antioxidants. The secretion of the snail supposedly has a double function when applied to human skin: on one hand it is claimed to stimulate the formation of collagen, elastin and dermal components that repair the signs of photo-aging and, second, is claimed to minimize the damage generated by free radicals that are responsible for premature skin aging."
Okay wow.

I am pretty impressed by the power of the snail mucin, and apparently, it is even used to treat gastrointestinal ulcers, so I guess that should affirm its healing powers.

I surfed the net a bit to see what others say about snail mucin by itself, and apparently, it helps to treat acne condition and will improve your skin condition if you have pimples and acne! So readers out there, if you have acne condition, do try out this mask and tell me if it has helped you! :)

Personal Experience
I have so far tried the mask twice on myself and once on my mom and I have to say that it produces really good results.

For myself, I find the mask slimier, sorry I cannot think of another word, than the usual mask, which instead of disgusting me, made me feel somewhat relief because at least I can believe that the mask really contains snail mucin as it has claimed. It has a slippery, somewhat soapy texture, and the whole mask is very well saturated in the solution. In fact, there is so much solution that it drips when I just took it out from the package and I could pour out another 3ml of solution or so from the packet.

The mask is very very thin and adheres to the skin very easily. It feels breathable and light, unlike my mother's facial masks (from expensive brands which I refuse to name) that are quite heavy and feels like they clog your pores. This mask makes one feel refreshed when applying it.

After using the mask for around 20 minutes ( personally I always keep the mask on five minutes more than the recommended time heh heh), the mask is removed and my skin is definitely clearer and has a dewy, soft and radiant look. Although some facial masks tell you not to wash the serum off after application, I would advise you to wash your face thoroughly anyway because I believe that having too much of nutrients at any one time is never good. Not to mention that there is no one facial mask that can be hundred percent plant-based and chemical free. Even the beneficial hyaluronic acid is still a chemical, so it is best to wash your face.

The results were much better on my mum, in fact it was so good that I got a shock. After using the mask, her face became much brighter ( I am dying to say whiter, but it doesn't sound very appealing), like I believe that if there is a skin-tone scale, she would have jumped up 2 ranks. Her skin appeared soft and moisturized, and the fine lines were less obvious. She was a little shocked herself and she too is amazed at how great this mask is at brightening the skin tone.

Overall, I will rate this mask a 4.5/5 because it is very good at brightening and moisturizing, and I think you all should give it a try! :)
